Making her first appearance with Concerts for Craswall, this exciting young guitar player from Herefordshire will perform a thrilling programme of music spanning the Renaissance and Baroque through to the 21st century.  It takes in late romantic folk pieces from Central and South America, along with traditional Latin and jazz.  Scroll down for full details of his programme.

Hope Cramsie

A classical guitarist from Herefordshire, Hope Cramsie recently graduated from the Royal College of Music with First Class Honours. Whilst there, she studied with professors Gary Ryan and Chris Stell. In addition, Hope spent a semester studying at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen with Jesper Sivebæk as part of the Erasmus Exchange Programme.

As a soloist, Hope is a versatile performer whose programmes showcase a diverse repertoire ranging from renditions of Renaissance music to the premiering of brand-new works. In 2021, she was awarded First Prize at Leicester Music Festival’s Advanced Recital Guitar Competition. She has featured regularly in the International Guitar Foundation’s Young Artist Platform concert series. This included a performance at Kings Place London during the London Guitar Festival last year.

Furthermore, she has performed at several other venues including the National Portrait Gallery and HowTheLightGetsIn Music and Philosophy Festival, as well as regular appearances in the RCM’s recital series and concerts.

In addition to her solo playing, Hope is a member of the NYGE Fellowship Ensemble too, a guitar ensemble dedicated to developing young talent.

Description:

If you like your churches grand and opulent, stay away from St Mary’s, Craswall. This tiny Norman church has remained pretty well untouched by time, except in the 18th century when the west end was cut off by a wall to provide a school room: at the same time a west gallery was installed.

Apart from that, it has remained plain and simple, except for the huge number of hooks around the walls, whether to hang chairs when the church was not being used for worship (as the Vicar thinks) or for hats (as everyone else thinks). Its very remoteness is somehow enhanced by the fact that it stands in a field: the ground is too rocky to have allowed it to be used for burial.
