Description

Three exciting and talented young performers from Europe:

Galina Stamenova, violin

Tora Rostvik, flute

Dimitris Spouras, clarinet

Galina Stamenova came to the attention of the musical world after winning the first prize in a competition organised by the LSO & Shell Oil Co. That prize gave her the opportunity, at the age of 19, to play at The Royal Festival with Andre Previn and the LSO. It was at a master class at the South Bank Summer Music Festival that she attracted the attention of Isaac Stern. With his help, Galina came to the Juilliard school to study with Dorothy DeLay.

Galina Stamenova's reputation as a gifted violinist is evident from her many appearances with some of Europe’s leading orchestras. In addition, Galina is concertmaster of the Symphony Orchestra of the Vlaamse Opera.

Tora Rostvik started playing the flute aged 6. Quickly after she was accepted onto a talented young musicians’ program with Professor Tom Ottar Andreassen. In 2017, she finished her Master studies at Guildhall School of Music & Drama where she studied under the guidance of Ian Clarke and Gareth Davies. She has played as a soloist with various orchestras playing with the LSO on a regular basis, under famous conductors such as Valery Gergiev and Sir Simon Rattle.

Dimitris Spouras is a conductor and clarinet player. He won the National Greek Conducting Competition and has conducted leading orchestras including the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker. As a clarinettist, he has played amongst others with the LSO under conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Daniel Harding and Gianandrea Noseda. In 2015 he founded The Antwerpen Camerata.

Featuring music by Telemann, Halvorsen, Hermann, Debussy and Messiaen.

Description:

If you like your churches grand and opulent, stay away from St Mary’s, Craswall. This tiny Norman church has remained pretty well untouched by time, except in the 18th century when the west end was cut off by a wall to provide a school room: at the same time a west gallery was installed.

Apart from that, it has remained plain and simple, except for the huge number of hooks around the walls, whether to hang chairs when the church was not being used for worship (as the Vicar thinks) or for hats (as everyone else thinks). Its very remoteness is somehow enhanced by the fact that it stands in a field: the ground is too rocky to have allowed it to be used for burial.
