Concerts for Craswall was delighted to welcome the Mikeleiz–Zucchi Duo— Spanish accordionist Iñigo Mikeleiz Berrade and Canadian saxophonist David Zucchi—for a special schools’ concert this week, performed for around 120 Year 7 pupils from Fairfield High School and 28 Year 6 pupils from both Michaelchurch Escley and Peterchurch Primary Schools.

Held in Fairfield High School, Peterchurch, the event introduced young listeners to the fascinating sound world of the accordion and saxophone through an engaging and interactive programme. The duo performed music ranging from lively dance rhythms to modern soundscapes, showing just how expressive and versatile their instruments can be.

Between pieces, Iñigo and David spoke about their instruments, demonstrated how sound is produced, and encouraged the pupils to listen closely for contrasts in tone, rhythm, and colour. There was laughter, curiosity, and plenty of questions from the young audience as the musicians moved seamlessly between classical, folk, and contemporary styles.

Following the large performance, 15 lucky Year 7 students were given the chance to take part in a hands-on workshop with Iñigo and David. In this informative and creative session, the pupils explored how both the saxophone and accordion work, tried producing their own sounds, and discovered the challenges—and fun—of performing. The musicians’ easy rapport and humour kept everyone relaxed and engaged, turning the session into both a learning experience and a joyful celebration of music-making.

Teachers and pupils alike described the concert as “inspiring” and “great fun,” with many students saying it was their first time hearing live classical music up close.

Concerts for Craswall is proud to continue bringing world-class musicians to local schools—sparking creativity, curiosity, and a lifelong love of music among young people in our community.
