🎶 Season Finale: A Dazzling Night with the MZ- Duo

Concerts for Craswall’s 2025 season ended on a high note last night with a truly memorable performance from the Mikeleiz–Zucchi Duo— Spanish accordionist Iñigo Mikeleiz Berrade and Canadian saxophonist David Zucchi.

The duo’s imaginative and skillfull programme took the audience on a journey through centuries and styles: the brilliant Overture from Powder Her Face by Thomas Adès, the lyrical Spanish Dances of Enrique Granados, Scottish composer Aileen Sweeney’s shimmering Mirrie Dancers, and Ravel’s elegant Le Tombeau de Couperin to close the first half.

After the interval, their interpretation of the Flute Sonata in G minor (attributed to J.S. Bach) was fresh and poised, followed by BartĂłk’s dynamic Dance Suite and Alex Paxton‘s vivid and exuberant Water Butt: Lovers, Snorkel.

The evening finished with a burst of tango fire—Astor Piazzolla’s Pedro y Pedro—performed as an encore to a well-deserved standing ovation.

David and Iñigo are without doubt two highly skilled, creative, and personable musicians who have combined the sound of the soprano sax and concert accordion, something almost certainly be outside most people’s experience, creating an exciting and kaleidoscopic new soundscape.

It was a fitting finale to a wonderful year of music-making in rural Herefordshire; adventurous, joyful, and full of artistry. Huge thanks to all who supported our 2025 season—we can’t wait to welcome you back next year!
